Dropout Protection Not Working with UAD Apollo Twin mkII (Thunderbolt)

I recently purchased an Apollo Twin mkII, which is a Thunderbolt 2 device.  I am using this in Windows 10.  It works great, and provides better performance at most buffer sizes than my Apollo Twin USB or Focusrite Saffire (Firewire).  However, performance is terrible in S1 when I enable Dropout Protection and set the protection level to Medium or higher.  The CPU meter spikes rapidly.  I find that I can load fewer plugins with DP enabled than without.  The opposite is true with the Saffire or Twin USB - DP works great with these, on the same PC.  Is this a known issue?  I can't think of any reason DP would work with the Twin USB but not a Twin Thunderbolt.

Specs:

  • I7-6700k
  • ASUS Z170-A motherboard
  • ASUS ThunderboltEX 3 card
  • Windows 10 Fall Creator
  • 16 GB RAM
  • Apollo Twin mkII
  • UAD-2 Quad
  • UAD-2 Solo
  • UAD Driver Version 9.5.1
  • Studio One 3.5.6.45910
