If possible, it would be great to be able to independently choose what protocol is being used for Universal Control on a Mac or PC. I would prefer to use a network connection, either wired or wifi to control the RM16Ai, rather than have that control bundled with the audio transfer over FireWire. Perhaps this would make it easier to have the FireWire latency problem dealt with? The latency doesn't appear to be with the audio, only the control of the RM16Ai interface.
