Question

I have about 15 .sound set files from studio one 3 or 4 (both on my machine), so once the are installed, can the underlying file be deleted?  I'm trying to understand if the files are installed into the program (and therefore stored in some other way) or if Studio One references these files in any way post installation.  If not, I'd like to delete them to free up some space.

No,  not if those are the ones being used by Studio One.  If you have unnecessary duplicates of them somewhere, sure, delete those.
