Hi, sorry if this has been asked/answered, but I can't see anything that directly answers this question...
I'm looking at setting up my garage into a studio, and have already got a 'control room' setup and networking in place. I'm thinking of not bothering with a tradition snake and fitting the SL24R or similar rack mount mixer in the 'live' room and then use AVB to put the audio to the control room and connect to my macbook pro (may invest in a desktop, but for now, MBP is what I'm using). I'll have to use the Thunderbold to Ethernet adapter.
First question - does the ethernet cable have to be a crossover cable?
I'm assuming that I don't HAVE to use an AVB compatible switch if I'm not using any other devices, though eventually I may put one in.
Second question - if I am plugging the Ethernet cable straight into the MBP via Thunderbolt port, what about internet? Will it recognise it as a different kind of connection and still allow a WiFi connection to my internet? I'd also
Third question - (not technically a presonus question, but still be interested to know) - in the control room, if all I have is an ethernet cable plugged into MBP...what do I do for monitors? Can I really just plug them into the 3.5mm headphone socket? Or do I have to get some other AVB device on the AVB network in that control room that can output to speakers (or actual AVB speakers that I've seen around)...?
Sorry for 3 questions, hopefully someone can help. I'm trying to avoid using a stagebox of some sort as I really want the full options of the mixer in the live room (it'll be used as a band practice room as well as studio).
