I have followed all the installation instructions from the Owner's Manual (4.2, 4.2.1, 4.3, 4.3.1, 4.3.2) perfectly for the AudioBox 96, connected to my Mac running 10.11.5 (El Capitan). However, when I reach 4.3.3 (Recording an audio track) and click 'record enable' on the track just created, I reach the instruction:
"Turn up the Input 1 level on your audio interface while speaking/singing into the microphone. You should see the input meter in Studio One Artist react to the input. Adjust the gain so the input level is near its maximum without clipping (distorting)."

I have checked and double checked that the input is correct, and that the cables are fully plugged in, as well as the knobs mirroring the instructions. I have also ensured under Mac settings that under Sound, the input and output are listed as AudioBox USB 96. If it helps, under input and output there is no volume registering at all.

I would really appreciate some help as I am a brand new user and very disappointed to be unable even to record anything. Thank you.

If the microphone you are using is a condenser microphone, you will need to enable the 48v button to activate Phantom power.

Also, check to make sure you have the mixer knob turned to playback.
