I have my faderport set up as a generic remote in Cubase so that I can use the wheel to scroll by video frames and set other custom controls like zoom in/out that the mackie setup doesn't include. But each button sends a specific note on midi channel 1, such that if I have a vst track selected I hear that note being played when I touch the button. Is there a way to set the faderport to send its messages on another channel, or to change which notes each button sends?

The Faderport is a DAW controller.. So if Cubase can set that up you should be able to reflect the changes with the Faderport.

There's also a Midi CC mode that can control expression and modulation.. If you are amendable to this id look into that
