Thanks Frank for taking the time to answer my question - I appreciate it. yes

I understand what you mean about the pedalling and if I was simply selecting a part and quantising it to tighten up a bit of piano playing you are absolutely correct - you would want the pedalling to remain in the same place as 'guessing' where to move the pedalling would be difficult.

However, quantising is a special case. Over all for me, it is much more important that the expression, pitch bend or any other DATA like it (including pedalling) moves with the notes. In the pedalling example, I had a piano intro which was rubato and decided that I wanted the final chord (before the song tempo started) to last a little longer. Therefore, I dragged the notes back a little bit. As the pedal info did not move with it they were now all out of synch.

Another example, move a brass part to be 2 bars later - I select the notes and drag them. The key switches move with the part (as they are notes) but the crescendos, pitch bends and other DATA stays where it is. This means you have lost all the associated expression with that passage and it is also now potentially 'interfering' with any other notes you might put where it was originally. This is also a problem if copied. For example, all the MOD DATA is lost (not copied) and this means in the 2nd copied version the brass will not crescendo/diminuendo as they did originally.

It would be a similar thing if I was working on an 'electro' track and using filter cut off DATA but then wanted to move/copy small sections of the part to elsewhere in the EDIT mode.

I understand that I could close the EDIT screen where I usually work on MIDI, go onto the main screen, zoom in to the part, turn off snap so I can cut 'randomly', cut with scissors at the beginning of the passage, cut at end of passage, select the bit in the middle of the 2 cuts, press ctrl C, move to where I want to paste it (not easy if not on a snap point), press ctrl V, select the whole of the string part and press G to join it all back together. (I am sure there are shortcuts here but I am still very new to Studio One wink)

I like to work in EDIT mode for MIDI where you can quickly see everything you need to. I think there should be an option where if you select a passage of notes you could press a macro button or something which automatically then selects all the associated control DATA so any copying or moving can be done properly with everything moving. It's been a while since I have been using a DAW but I do not remember this problem with CUBASE and I was using Cakewalk at the end of last year and didn't come across the problem there either - maybe I was just using them differently? I can't remember clearly I'm afraid.

Perhaps there is a simple solution to this that someone can help me with, but in the meantime I will do the work around of breaking out of the EDIT mode whenever I need to move/copy parts with their associated DATA.

Best wishes,

Richard
