I am considering buying a presonus quantum 2 as my main interface for its superlow latency. In more input demanding situations I have an older focusrite saffire pro40 that I would want to attach to the quantum via its firewire output (using a fw400 to thunderbolt2 cable) I am wondering if this will at all work and if I will be able to monitor the saffire in logic x like the quantum. Perhaps somebody has a similar situation working for them?

It would be possible to use your Saffire pro40 for 8 extra inputs. This would be done with ADAT cables into the Quantum 2.

The Thunderbolt ports on the back of Quantum units are true ports.

You can pass anything the Thunderbolt 2 protocol contains, Firewire in this case, through the second port of the Quantum without interruption.
