How can I recognise foot on AND off in a MIDI foot controller pedal?

I have a ********* FCB1010 foot controller. I want to assign one of the pedals to the record button on my looper. I have assigned the automation, but when I press on the pedal, the automation line goes up to 100%, and stays there until I press the pedal again. Therefore to record a loop, I have to press four times - twice to start the loop, twice to end it.

I'm not sure if this is a limitation of the hardware, or if there is something I need to do in S1, or maybe even Guitar Rig. In other effects, for example distortion it's fine because you want it to be on for a time and then turn off, but with looping the on/off is just to trigger the start and end of the loop.

I have the same question as I cant see an answer. I use a Melaudio commander pedal and would like it to just start and stop playback. Nothing special. Studio One seems to recognize it in the setup but I have no idea how to make it "learn" Any help would be great . Thanks
