How to get -12db input signal into Studio One without having to crank the gain all the way?

I'm using a Studiolive III 32 channel console as my interface to Studio One 5.2, which I run on a Windows 10 64-bit machine. I am using a Kawai ES920 digital piano that I have connected via a pair of TRS cables into a patch bay that is connected to the back of the Studiolive. I have the volume on the Kawai all the way up. I'm trying to get a signal level of -12db, but I feel like I have to really turn up the gain to almost full and the level is still not hitting -12.

That is one example, but even when I am using a mic (Rode NT1) on another sound source, I find it hard to get to -12 without having to really boost my gain. Is there something I am missing? Or is it normal to have to use so much gain in order to get such a low signal?

This isn't a new problem. I've had the board for over a year, I was hoping there was an intuitive solution that is better than the things I am doing.
