I have an AtomSQ and find its not really very usefull to me at all. I think what I really require is a new Atom controller thats specifically designed for controlling VST's. If I could get something with a screen on it , where the knobs are placed around the screen and their function changes depending on the VST selected and there function and value is displayed on the screen beside the knob. there should be large left right buttons to select button pages and the screen MOST importantly should be tilted for MAXIMUM visibility.(it might be nice to have the VST photos displayed also) what would be ideal is the system similar to an MPCx where the qlink knobs each have individual small screens to show their changing function, but I guess that might be too costly. The one decent screen , tilted and with knobs on the outside edge (either side) would be fine. Presonus are better placed than many hardware manufacturers to make such a product as they have complete control of their protocol used for communication between controller and DAW.

Please consider looking at a Faderport Controller by Presonus.  This mixer can control native f.x., VST fx, instrument parameters, track parameters.  The list is pretty endless.  For example, my faderport 16 is used to control all controls of the Presence XT, or it will adjust my insert F.X., send levels.  Midi learn will allow you to map anything you want to the controller.  There are 3 varieties - single channel, eight and sixteen channels.  You can even get one with a built-in interface called the i/oStation 24c.

no, I won't consider a faderport. I already have Presonus's flagship product (studiolive 32s) which doesn't satisfy my requirements around VST control either. The DAW control aspects of the studiolive are pretty half-assed and seem very much like an after thought , which is a shame because, in my opinion  presonus are uniquely positioned to make a product that could have been the best integrated DAW control and audio interface on the market. key (for me) for such a device is a bunch of knobs that have individual displays that automap to vst parameters , that are in easy reach and most importantly are angled at the  "optimum" viewing angle (so stick them at the bottom below each fader angle at 45degrees (they could double as pan knobs.. what do you mean there are no pan knobs on the desk?!?). presonus are uniquely positioned in my view because not only do they have complete control of the DAW software, they also make quality hardware and reasonable prices. It would be really great in fact if they invented a new standard for DAW control thats overcomes the Mackie limitations and made the standard available to other software/hardware vendors. But as I say, the DAW control on the 32s just seems like an afterthought, when they brought out the automap vst parameter thing for the Faderports, they didn't even think to include it in the flagship products, which is pretty short sighted as far as I'm concerned, the idea of having a 32channel audio interface with plugins running on the hardware that transforms into a DAW controller at the touch of a button while still running all the audio hardware stuff underneath is such a briliant feature and you dont really hear much about in the marketing/sales blurb etc...

Okay.  That's fine.  I was only telling you what is already available and serves the purpose you require.  If it's not for you, cool.
