Make previous versions of native plugins available

Native plugins such as the Analog Delay have been re-written for version 5 of Studio One. That basically means that this version is not 100% backward compatible. Project files and mixes from version 4 are messed-up because the same plugin settings yield vastly different results between program versions.

I have never experienced this with any other DAW and I see no reason why it should not be possible to smoothly transition from version 4 to version 5.

The solution is trivial:

  • Either create a separate plugin of the old version (including the old GUI, not only to avoid confusion), maybe with a suffix like "(v4)".
  • Or create a selector within the existing native plugin to switch beween versions.

I assume the former solution is the better. After all you are getting two different native plugins.

At least it should be possible for old project files or files that used the old version to access that old version. It won't even have to be visible in the plugin browser (though I wouldn't mind, after all there is an excellent browser available).

But there needs to be a solution. How is a user supposed to work with a DAW that will give unpredictable results with every new version?
