Question

Hi All!

Just been tracking guitars for my music project, fluff (shameless self plug - got to be done) and I have been recording my tracks at -16dB like normal to allow for decent headroom within the project itself. I accidentally pressed the [N] key with a track selected and the soundwaves were boosted to just shy of 0dB. I use a Windows10 laptop with StudioOne5 with the Logic Pro key commands skin.

I experimented and used this command on all of my four guitar tracks at once just to see... and the same happened. Boosted to 0dB but I didn't clip the master bus which surprised me. SO my real question is: Is this [N] command just a straight level boost or is there more going on behind the scenes like limiting in order to get a rough levels mix without putting in the groundwork?

Sounds like the Logic Pro commands use that key for normalisation (i.e. bring everything up so the loudest parts hit unity gain (or 0 on your channel)).   It's ctrl/cmd+N normally in S1 default config.
