Sometimes midi can trigger long notes that go on for several seconds. There needs to be a shortcut to instantly disable all the sound so you can start playback.

Otherwise you need to wait every time that the sample plays out and the tail fades until you can resume playback.

I found "a way". You quickly press Ctrl + E, start exporting and immediately cancel the export. That way any reverb tails or long releases will end.

Found a better way still. When "Release audio in background" is checked, quickly swapping windows will immediately cut any audio playing
