It would be desirable that the events with visible grid did not become translucent and washed out, but that the grid was simply overlaid on the events with their original colors.

Yes! I would really like this too. The translucent option kinda ruins my painstakingly selected colour palette :P
Would love if the gridline "layer" could just be brought to the front without affecting the event colours.
