Question

It would be very nice if one could write FLAC in recorded tracks or stems.

There are environments, when one largely benefits from the compressed tracks, speaking of both disk size and cloud storages.

Probably, there are as well the ones, that shouldn't record to FLAC as the encoding is not free, so this should be an option. But I'm perfectly able to write FLAC tracks and stems in both Reaper (done this up to netbooks) and Cubase, and I think, Studio One would only benefit from this feature.
