Can record but can't playback with Firewire connected to iMac air

I have new iMac air, Persons 16.4.2ai board, Capture and Studio 3. I can record and can even playback recordings. The problem is I have to unplug firewire connector before I can hear recordings.Any solutions?Thanks

You're not engaging your Digital Returns. Please read your Software Reference Manual for more information. Section 2.5 and 7 cover digital Send / Returns and Capture.
