Why is my S1v3 project output distorting above -3db?

I am doing some mastering in a S1v3 project.

My imported audio files are peaking at around -6db on the output meter, using PkRMS metering.

I want to use the PreSonus Limiter to increase loudness so they will all peak right around -1db. I load the Limiter into Master/Post, and when I raise the Input my audio gets louder. However as soon as they go above -3db I start to hear horrible digital clipping distortion.

I have seen the Limiter used in videos online to push audio right up to 0db without any distortion happening.  I can't work out why it's not working for me. Can anyone help me with this?

MacPro, OSX 10.12.6, 6 core 3.5GHz, 64Gb RAM, S1v3.3.4, MOTU 16A

Hi Nicolas,

The first thing to look at is where the Master fader is set to be sure it's at unity gain and not adding any gain after the limiter.

If it is and you can demonstrate what you report happening in a small test project please zip up the small test project and upload it to the cloud and link it to a support ticket so that a representative can help.
