I have an Audiobox USB 96 and I am wondering if I can hook it up to my iPad Air 2 and use my guitars and mics with Garageband and Amplitube.  The Air 2 has a lightning connector and while I know that there are USB to Lightning adapter cables, will this setup work with a USB type B (old printer style) to lightning adapter?  Any help will be appreciated.

I also have an Audiobox USB and would like to know if I can connect to an iPad or iPhone with a USB to Lightning adaptor versus purchasing an Audiobox iTwo.

I have what is known as the Apple camera (or OTG) adapter. It essentially allows the usb A male end of the cord to connect to an iPad or iPhone via the lightning connector. I have had success using an iRig this way and the iPad recognized it just fine. The problem I am running into with the Audiobox96 I just purchased, is that the iPad cannot supply enough current (>100mA) to power the box. (iPad returns a message on the screen)  I would therefore have to use the camera adapter which also includes a female lightning port for in-line charging. I believe it is sold by Apple as the Lightning to USB3 adapter, for around $35. Third party also have cheaper knock-off versions. At this time, I cannot confirm that this will work, but that is my next move. If anyone tries it before I do, let me know how it goes!

I am in the same situation. I bought a PreSonus USB96 and I have been using it for some time with a condenser mic. Now, I want to connect it to an Ipad as a midi controller for looping. I am not able to get the USB96 to talk to the ipad. Not to mention only one usb for both power and data transmission. Really? Is it possible to get around this so that midi communication can go back and forth through a lightning cable or a usb hub to an ipad?

I just went through this process and I think I can help. This Presonus support document covers hardware compatibility with IOS devices.

https://support.presonus.com/hc/en-us/articles/360059975732-PreSonus-Hardware-iOS-iPadOS-Compatibility

The critical bit is that you need an Apple lightning-to-USB-3 adapter. This is different from the standard Apple USB camera adapter in one important way: it adds a power input port. The standard USB port connects to your Presonus device. For power, the input is USB-C port, so you need the right cable. This cable would go from your AC power block, into the USB-C port.

Then, you plug the lightning end of the adapter into your IOS device. Power is then passed from the adapter directly to your Presonus Audiobox USB, instead of trying to pull it from the iPAd, which doesn't provide enough power.

BUT there is one thing to note, and the support document doesn't tell you this: you won't be able to use Studio One software. It's not available as an iOS app, and of course you won't have any access to it on your PC. Your Audiobox will function as a basic interface, and the only controls you'll have are on the box itself. (Presonus does have iOS apps, but none of them apply here.)

I confirmed this info with Presonus Tech Support.
