I would like to identify clips by names I assign ...for example: Addictive Drums / Toontrack clips have next to impossible names ...I'd like to edit those names to something I can use....

You can edit the name in the inspector when a clip is selected.

Unfortunately the part will get the track name again as soon as you Mix record in it or merge it. A FR to prevent that is here: Respect Instrument Part custom name + color on record mix and merge.
