I’d like an option to select a series of tracks or events or even a whole session and automatically set the optimum clip level for that event/track.

I see this as being used at the start of a mix session to get all tracks to the optimal VU level to start the process. The tool would consider the type of audio eg transient or slow attack and adjust the event gain so that it hits the first insert (or MixFX) at the best volume.

Select them, click on the 'i' to show the inspector. Enable normalize and then set the preferred gain, for example -12dB or -18dB, and your done.
