Hi all,

I am a massive noob when it comes to this and I can't seem to find an answer on how to connect things. I have the 1818vsl and the ********* ADA8200, and am looking to use the 1818vsl as the master.

Do I connect > ADAT cable > 1818vsl > IN to the OUT of the 8200? (or) 1818vsl OUT > ADA8200 IN?

Once the ADAT cable is hooked up, does it matter which unit has the mics going into it? Should it be one over the other?

Thanks a lot!

I have a ADA8000 but I would suspect it's close to the same as the 8200. I go out of the 8000 into the 1818 via lightpipe(ADAT). While I'm not certain you should use one over the other, I generally plug the 1818 first until full and my 8000 second.

You'll need either one optical cable and a BNC coaxial one, or two optical cables.

One optical cable goes from the 8200 OUT to the 1818VSL ADAT IN (to get the audio from the 8200 inputs into the 1818VSL).

You'll then either need a coaxial cable from the 1818VSL "Sync Out" to the 8200 "Sync" input, OR a second optical cable from the 1818VSL ADAT OUT to the 8200 ADAT IN. These are so both units have their sampling clocks synchronized (so you don't get pops and other artifacts). Just do make sure you select the appropriate setting (Slave, in eithet case) with the switch on the back of the 8200.
