Buzzing in headphones and speakers

I am using an Audiobox USB with a Lenovo Yoga Pro 3 laptop. I have been experiencing a distinct hissing/ buzzing through both the speakers and headphones. Usually the sound occurs for about 10 seconds then stops for about 15 seconds, and repeats. Sometimes the buzzing will stop for hours, and sometimes it persists for hours. I have already taken the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Turned off cell phones: no effect
  • Turned off powered speakers: Still get noise in headphones
  • Changed power outlet for speakers and laptop: no effect
  • Unplugged laptop from charger: buzzing gets louder
Any ideas?
Thank you!

Hi,

""Unplugged laptop from charger: buzzing gets louder" hmmm... odd, but perhaps a clue here? If you have a powered hub, you might try that? The Audiobox USB (the original, not the iTwo) is a PORT SPECIFIC device, and MUST be used ONLY on the port it was installed in. Here is where it gets funky... USB ports are not all created equal...that said, some have more power available to them, and sometimes, changing ports can solve the problem. HOWEVER, if you want to try it... you'll need to uninstall, and re-install to a different port.

A Powered USB hub can solve the problem (if indeed power is the issue) and doesn't require a different port install...

Thank you gadget69.

Unfortunately, I do not have any other available USB ports, and getting the Audiobox installed the first time took a week of back-and-forth with tech support. Can you please tell me what you think might be happening with my usb port?

Thank you,

Adam
