How to set pitch bend range for a controller?

When I use the pitch bend control on my MIDI controller keyboards, the pitch of the software instrument bends much more than the pitch bend range set up on the software instrument.

What I mean is, when I push the pitch bend lever on my controller to its maximum setting, I would expect the pitch of the instrument to change by +/-2 semitones (or by whatever the pitch bend range is set to in the instrument).  Instead, the pitch changes by many octaves.

I use a Novation SL25 directly connected to my PC by USB, and a Nord Stage 3 connected via a Roland UA1010 audio/MIDI interface.  I have tried both the Mai Tai soft-synth and Serum VST.  Regardless of what input device or soft-synth I am using, the pitch bend problem consistently behaves as I described above.

So I am wondering, is there a Studio One setting or configuration that controls the range of the pitch bender?  Or is there something else I am missing?

I'm quite new to Studio One and appreciate any help.

Thanks
