Install bundled sounds to external hard drive (MacOS X)

In the Notion course on Groove3.com the instructor says that it's possible to offload the bundled sounds installation to an external drive to save space on the system drive.

However, during install, the installer specifically says that it must be installed to the drive containing the Mac OS.
I've managed to circumvent this by first installing to the system drive and moving it to the path I've specified in Notion Preferences, but this is a rather cumbersome way to do it.
Wouldn't it make more sense to pick up the path defined in Notion Preferences when the installer launches, and use that path as an alternative?

I've tried both using drives formatted as HFS+ and APFS, but the installer still insists on installing to /Library/Application Support/Notion Music/Notion 6/Sounds.

How many times in your life are you going to install the Notion sounds? I don't think the extra step is too onerous...
