I am a novice user so I know this is elementary for you!

I, first, found that the mixdown advised of clipping even though there was none when recording or listening back?

I am wondering if adding effects after the recording would curtail this?

Depends completely on what effects you add. Something to limit the levels (e.g. limiter, compressor) would likely help.

The clipping occurs because of your output levels when mixing, has nothing to do with recorded levels.

When listening to your mix in Studio One, are any channels clipping? Often, simply turning down the Master will eliminate clipping.
