Why do I get static on playback using the usb-c connection and not on the usb 2.0 connection?

I am using Studio 1-3 pro on an asus laptop w.10-64  on a new 24c interface.  When I playback a file when connected to the usb-c port,  I get static.  When connected through a usb 2.0 powered hub,  there is no static. Any suggestions?
