Using digital sends and returns to re-record tracks individually in DAW

I'm new to mixing consoles and am looking to route a recorded "track 1" from my DAW into the Presonus Studiolive 32SC mixer (which I believe is done through the presonus channel's digital return) and then route the signal back (through digital send?) to my DAW but this time I would like to have the presonus faders affect the new recorded "track 2". This setup is just to arrange the tracks a certain way, it's not necessarily a final mix. I also don't think I would be required to use DAW mode for this setup.

When I attempt to record "track 2" the presonus faders only affect the monitoring levels. I'm guessing that there's something I have to adjust in the channel settings in the mixer.

No, you don't need DAW mode. If you have created a song in Studio One and used the SL 32 template, all routing is ready layouted for 32 channels plus a stereo return. You can move tracks in Studio One according to the layout you use in your console. Channel 2 is automatically routed to track 2 in Studio One. If you want to record to tack 2, input 2 on the console should be set to analog (the physical input of your mixer as input source).
