Question

Please add an option for not resetting loop points when recording.

When recording with loop turned on, stopping the recording edits my loop selection, ending it where I pressed stop. I'm sure there's great use for this, but not for me.

I created a two-bar loop and recorded a few passes then hit stop.

My loop range remains unaltered.

There's got to be a setting somewhere, but I can't find it.

Could you provide more details around your setup and exact steps?

Steven, stop recording prior to the end of the loop as if you made a mistake.

You have “Loop Follows Selection” turned on don’t you? You’re pitting multiple pieces of logic in this program against themselves so,

Assign a keyboard shortcut to toggle this

OR

use “Assign Command” in the “Device Editor” window so you can have a button for this on your controller.

that should solve it for you

The reason this would be a bad feature request is this would require that event to not be selected once you stop recording. Which would mean everyone who’s used to it showing up in the editor as soon as they hit stop would start complaining, etc etc etc. between a keyboard shortcut or Assign Command you can remedy this. I wouldn’t even consider it a workaround because it’s so easily done

It would be an option. "Select Recording When Done". Default is on, I select off. Quite similar to "Loop Selection" on/off.

But I'm not sure what you mean by 2 pieces of logic against each other. I simply want to set a loop and not have it changed by me stopping a recording prior to reaching the end of it. What's the 2nd piece of logic?

You said you don't want to trigger a keyboard shortcut to toggle this because you're at your MIDI controller, so I told you how to toggle it from your MIDI controller.

The second piece of logic is that events are selected when you stop recording them because it allows for relevant editing and viewing of what you just recorded. The loop points only change because events are selected when you stop recording them and you insist on keeping "Loop Follows Selection" engaged while recording.

"Select Recording When Done" would be some REAPER-level micro-settings and I don't really think that's what Studio One is about. Usually this program goes for logical behavior that covers most use cases but doesn't exclude simple easy tools to come up with an alternative workflow once in a while (like assigning commands and macros to midi controller buttons, rather than heaps of settings which cant be toggled with a button or key).

I hope the article and suggestion I made helps. I hope this doesn't come across as overly negative but I'm inclined to vote against this because I don't want to see polluted drop down menus everywhere like Cubase and REAPER.

I'm on a Komplete Kontrol. All the controls are accounted for. Not sure, but I believe I'd have to switch to controller mode to have something like that assigned to my controller.

You are being quite negative considering this would be one more link option that you wouldn't have to touch.

Have you never started recording, made a mistake and stopped the recording prior to the end of the selection? You don't see a use for an option that allows you to continue without having to reset the loop points? Even if you haven't, are you really that against one more option that would already default to what you wanted? It's not another drop down. It's one more option in an existing drop down.

Wow! If folks are spending this much time arguing against things that wouldn't effect them, I can see why there are so many basics missing.

If you temporarily turn off Loop Follows Selection before recording this will stop happening to you. I have the same type of controller as you, just telling you how I would do it if my computer keyboard was not with my KK61. You could hit MIDI, toggle it with a button and hit record. If you need the knobs for expression control just hit Instance again before recording.

Or you could create an Instrument part the length of the loop before you record.

Genuinely curious, why do you leave Loop Follows selection on all the time? I use that sometimes but it’s definitely not always on for me, just would like to know.

I understand how to work around this missing option. I'm simply asking for an option that would eliminate the need for work arounds, saving me time.

I work on sections throughout the writing process and want them looped when I select them. There's never a time I don't want a selection looped when >I< select it. Turning this off and on as many times that would be necessary is a major waste of time. Being able to "unlink recordings from loop follows selection", or "don't select recording after", once, gives me that time back.

Many of S1's features are there to save time. This would be a great one. Again, I can't be the only one that makes mistakes when recording. And either of the 2 options I mention would be of similar nature as the other link options available.
