How do I record to an external hard drive?

I have a Mac laptop .I am using studio one 2.

I want to start recording to  I want to start recording to 7200 RPM hard drive. My mac says it is equipped with USB 2.  The included cable is USB three. My problem is I don't know how to name a folder on the hard drive to record two. Can anyone help me. Also if I am able to back up all my data  to the hard drive how do I tell studio one that is where to find the songs/dad data. Noob.

Once the external hard drive is connected, you'll need to:

1. Open Studio One

2. Click the Studio One drop down menu and select "Studio One preferences"

3. Go to the Locations tab

4. Change the User Data location to a folder on your external hard drive.
