Hey there,

It's been a hell of a ride trying to figure out a way to figure out a way to connect my new Quantum 4848 to my current computer without having to buy an entirely new computer. I thought it would be as easy as buying a used Thunderboldt 2 expansion card, but of course I had not done my research on how propriety this kind of hardware is.

My issue: I have a 2012 Intel i7 that I'm rather fond of and a motherboard that's just as old. The cheapest solution would be to simply replace the motherboard, but with this generation of CPU, there are no motherboards that support Thunderboldt 2.

My question: There is one motherboard I could buy which has a Thunderboldt 1 port and supports my CPU. I have read somewhere vaguely that some version of the Quantum will work with Thunderboldt 1, but this isn't clear enough to give me confidence in buying an expensive piece of (basically) ancient technology. Will my Quantum 4848 work with the Thunderboldt 1 port on this new (old) motherboard?

Thank you!

Quantum series is fully Thunderbolt-compatible.  It will work on all Thunderbolt ports.
