You DID get a reply, you were told that you probably fried the Firewire card from hot-plugging and were told to try a new one (which are under $20 and returnable in 2021) , even try a new cable. Anyone "really good at computers" would have also tried the unit on another PC to eliminate the PC as the cause. Did you do any of that?
