My FireStudio 2626 is connected to my PC (Windows 7 Professional, all specs are within the minimum requirements for FireStudio) via a FireWire cable (6 foot 6 pin IEEE 1394). I installed the relevant Universal Control software from the PreSonus website (Universal Control v1.2.2715, Driver v3.5.5 - PC) according to the instructions, restarting when necessary and connecting the interface after each reboot. I've installed and properly uninstalled this a total of four times, and each time the interface shows that it's synced with a blue light; however, the Universal Control consistently shows "Driver version 0.0.0.0" with no device shown as connected. The Universal Control icon in the system tray is orange, indicating that nothing is connected. In the Device Manager, there is a "PreSonus FireStudio" under "Sound, video and game controllers"; this file is shown as "working properly" and shows as updated, but, again, Universal Control does not detect any such device. Studio One also does not detect anything; selecting "PreSonus FireStudio" from the Audio Device list results in a message saying that the device could not be initialized, even while it's connected and the power is on.

It appears that I've done everything I could do, but nothing has worked yet. I bought this FireStudio 2626 from a friend, so I don't have any CD's or miscellaneous hardware if necessary. Once again, the drivers are all updated and installed correctly, and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling (properly, per your website's instructions) a number of times. What else can I do to ensure that my FireStudio can work properly on my PC? Please help!

The issue you are describing is showing symptoms of a failed 1394 PHY connector due to hot plugging while the unit and the host are on which is not recommended with 1394 6-Pin devices. The failed connection might be on the host system, the cable itself, and/or the interface, or a combination of all three.

Try these 2 things first

- Replace the 1394 cable with a new one, we've seen sometimes where the cables go bad, (yes they go bad).

If that doesn't work, then:

- Replace the 1394 card on your system with a recommended card from our recommended 1394 card list

If that doesn't work, then the unit would need to be repaired.

Unfortunately the Firestudio 2626 has reached the end of it's service life as no more parts are available to fix those units.

We would recommend contacting your local music store to see what newer options are available that meet your budget.
