have a high spec dell laptop with thunderbolt 3 port, am buying the apple firewire to thunderbolt 2 and thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapters, will this work on its own with the studiolive 24.4.2 ai or would i need a firewire chip aswell for it to function

If your port is a thunderbolt 3, not just USB-C, it should work fine.
