Question

As far as I can tell I have to install each sound by downloading an installer from the website. This could be made so much easier by incorporating a sound manager into the software.

Was thinking of a similar thing... an instrument editor where you could download or define a VSTs, configure it to taste, assign rules / keyswitches / dymamics ect. and then save it as an "instrument preset" you can call from the main instruments selection.
