Question

I use the ********* UCA222. I plugged my guitar into it with a 1/4 inch cable to the left and right inputs. However, when I go into Studio One 4, I don't know how to get the software to pick the guitar up. I've watched so many youtube videos but I can't seem to find any clear step by step info on how to set up the guitar track and get it to pick the sound up. I have been able to set up a keyboard and microphone tracks in the past but I'm lost when it comes to recording electric guitar.

Hi.  That interface takes RCA line level inputs.  What this means is that is is ideal for sitting between a mixer and the computer or allowing a record deck or similar to connect straight to the computer.  What it is not ideal for is guitars - unless you have put it through a load box to get the guitar from instrument level to line level.  I would not recommend for any musician because it isn't meant for us.  It's meant for D.J. or recording, for example, an electric drum kit or keyboard if it supports line out.  But mainly D.J. stuff.  Its more expensive but I recommend an Audiobox USB 96 for working with your guitar.  It accepts microphone inputs and passive guitar inputs - you can literally plug the guitar straight in and then put Ampire ( the virtual amplifier included with Studio One) on your inputs.  That's one way I record my electric guitar for late night sessions.  In an ideal world you would plug into an amp and mic the amp.  (That's my chosen preference).

Or, sorry for double post..  There's a D/I gadget called the Radial D/I which is about the same price as a Presonus Audiobox but will bring your guitar up to line level or microphone level.  In your case, I would recommend the audiobox over the Radial for flexibility.
