When I finish a song and master it in the project window, then save the project and then go back to the song, I see the star next to the name, which indicates that the project needs to be saved. To be on the safe side, I save the song afterwards. But when I open the project again afterwards, I get the message that a newer version of the song is available because I had to save the song again - even though the song hasn't changed at all.

I'm not seeing that.  Here's what I did:

  • Create a new project
  • Import File/choose the Song I want to master
  • It automatically opens/creates the master file (I hadn't already done that when the Song was open)
  • I make some changes (added EQ).
  • Save project
  • Click on Songs in the menu to switch to the Song

It was not marked as "dirty" - no asterisk.

What steps are you following?

This same thing is happening to me and it's driving me NUTS. Update all mastering files, and one of my project's tracks has this glitch. After the mastering file is updated it asks if I want to "save my changes" but I myself haven't even opened that file manually. If I click "Yes" then that track is shown as out of sync on the Project page. Endless loop.
