Why does my instrument track always default to be enabled to record?

Whenever I start up my project, my instrument (MIDI) track is always in Record mode (Record button is lit up). It acts like it is recording when I record another track, but does not actually overwrite any of the MIDI data. Just kind of weird. Is there a way to change this other than manually turning off the record button on the track every time?

Do you have Instrument input follows selection enabled?
