No audio output

asked Jul 3, 2016 in Studio One 3 by calebwoelcke (260 points)

I have installed studio one 3 (the free variant) on both my laptop and my desktop, and I cant get any playback from either of them. I am very new to audio editing in general, so odds are I just have something missconfigured. Prior to  studio one I played around with acid which worked fine baring the fact that its built in instrument suite is garbage

My current audio setup consists of my laptop with a pair of headphones (hyperx cloud core) plugged into a 3.5 mm and a desktop with a usb headset (steelseries siberia 350). I am for now solely interested in midi composition so I have no inputs. In software my audio device is windows audio with latency turned down to 10 and exclusive mode disabled. in the audio IO setup it shows main and channels 1 and 2 are assigned to left and right respectively) On the OS side of things I have my device set to the apropreate output with allow programs to take exclusive control disabled.

As I have no clue what I am doing, my testing methology was to insert a instrumental track, assign the instument to pressence, and make a midi note, then hit play. Clicking on the keyboard in edit mode (which from my experience with acid generates a preview tone) also produces no audio, so I am reasonably sure that it’s a software setting and not that I muted some track somewhere.

I have also tried the standards troubleshooting steps, restarting the program, restarting the machine, reinstalling the software, ect.

Any suggestions as to how to get audio would be appreceated, I would realy like to try working with pressence.

If you are only wanting to record and play midi, follow the instructions in the reference manual Setup > Set Up Your Midi Devices to create an External Device that will connect your midi keyboard to Studio One for recording midi.

After doing that, you should be able to record and play back midi.  Also take a good read over the sections in the user manual that related to recording midi instruments..  Recording > Instrument Tracks.
