I purchased an AUDIOBOX USB interface as a Christmas gift for my stepson. Before Christmas I hooked it up to my HP stream laptop w/ Windows 10, then hooked up my Octava MK319 Microphone to the AUDIOBOX and everything worked like a dream. After Christmas I went to hook it up to my stepsons computer and I was unable to download the driver because his PC is running Windows Vista. So i just opened up Acid Pro 4.0 plugged in the AUDIOBOX and started recording. It did record but the quality was absolute garbage compared to the quality it was on my laptop. Is the quality difference because the driver for the AUDIOBOX had not been installed on his PC, can an AUDIOBOX even record without the driver installed?

The issue may not be the recordings but instead the Vista computer. It's possible that the computer doesn't meet minimum specs for the software or the hardware which can cause pops, clicks, and dropouts when trying to record or playback.

Regardless, you can try using a legacy driver from the AudioBox downloads page:

You can download and install driver version 1.2.2 on the Vista computer.
