Using 16.4.2 as my digital converter for audio going into my DAW.  Is a DI recommended for use with electric guitar/bass or can you plug directed into the 1/4" input on the back of the 16.4.2?  When using an old DI, the signal was way too low when it finally reached my DAW.... could be a bad DI, but, is one really needed?

As the StudioLive 16.4.2 does not have a dedicated Instrument input, yes you will need to use a DI.

If the output of the DI you used was low, it might be worth checking if a Pad button (used to attenuate the signal) was engaged.
