Connect iMac to StudioLive 32.4.2Ai to use Capture

We are wanting to upgrade and use a new iMac (mid 2017 models) and use the iMac to both control UC Surface and also record to Capture.

We already have the AVB card and other hardware in place, so that should work for UC Surface, but how do I adapt the iMac's I/O to the FireWire s800 that we would need to record to Capture? I have not found an adapter that would do this.

There is no:

  • USB-C to FireWire s800
  • USB 3 to FireWire s800
I am sure there is someone out there using this iMac/StudioLive 32.4.2Ai setup, and they found a solution to this.

Your Mac also has Thunderbolt, which uses the USB-C connector jack to operate.

Apple makes Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C connector) to Thunderbolt 2.

You will then need the Thunderbolt 2 to FireWire 800 adapter from Apple.
