Why is it SO HARD to select exact bar lengths with the range tool?

I mean, I'm probably making a giant idiot of myself here...
I don't know whether it should or not, but it doesn't seem to make any difference what Snap or Quantize options I have selected. I have to zoom right down to the sample level to position it EXACTLY right, and if I should accidentally click one pixel to the right or left of the range marker at any point, the entire range is deselected and I have to start again. Please, what is it that everyone else knows and I'm somehow missing?

I'm not sure this is the same thing that you're complaining about, but there seems to be a bug that when "Snap" is ON, and you hold down SHIFT to toggle Snap (off), you indeed see how the cursor/position line moves freely, no snapping, but when actually beginning the range selection, the range is snapping even though SHIFT is being held and the cursor/position line moves freely as if Snap was off.

The bug continues:

If you hold down SHIFT before beginning your selection, the toggling off snap will not work both for the start and end of the selection. But if you start the selection and then hold down shift, the toggling snap off works and the selection will end freely.

These bugs are most probably due to the shift being used to toggle snap, and to "add to range selection", at the same time. "Adding to range selection" should be switched to CTRL or ALT, instead of and bugging up the "toggle-snap" function of SHIFT.

From what Moshe seems to be saying, it sounds as if 'snapping' is a behaviour which my installation of Studio One does not, and has never, exhibited. So just to be clear: in normal Studio One behaviour, if 'Snap' is engaged, the cursor should not move smoothly or freely when dragged laterally along the track, is that correct? if that's the case then it sounds like a support ticket beckons....

Snap to grid needs to be switched on. It is a feature of all versions of Studio One. There is no bug here. make sure you have the grid snapping set to BARS.

Okay, so I apologise for my failure of clarity. When I said, 'it doesn't matter what Snap or Quantize options I have selected', in my head it was clear that that included 'Snap to Grid' being enabled. I probably shouldn't have said the part about making a giant idiot of myself if I didn't want people to assume I was actually being one...

So, to be 100% clear: 'Snap to Grid' is enabled. There is no snapping. The snapping is not. Not with the snapping.

Hence my frustration.

Genuinely though, thanks for taking the time to respond. Of course, you shouldn't assume people aren't missing something incredibly obvious. It's just in my case, as far as I can tell, I've run out of things for it to be.

Okay, so, as it turns out, the exact way in which I was being an idiot was this:
I failed to appreciate that having the big, blue, reassuring 'Snap to Grid' button activated is neither here nor there unless you *also* have 'Snap to Grid' selected in the drop-down menu.
Normal snapping has now been resumed. It is to snap. Snapping is Yes. Thank you.

That's actually kind of strange that you can select no "snap timebase" in the "snap timebase" drop down menu so that Snap to Grid doesn't work for some tools. Glad you figured it out.
