Plug-in Scanner runs every few sessions and wastes lots of time

Every few times I load Studio One 4, I seem to get the Plug-in Scanner popping up for a full check on Start-up(ie, like it's running first time).

As I type this, it's fifteen minutes into a scan of the VST 2 folder, which the dialog claims has 6814 items in. There are only 178 plugins in the actual VST folder.

This seems to happen once every several times that I load Studio One. Often the Plug-in Scanner does a quick rescan; other times it goes in for the long haul – like this time.

Is this a known issue at all, or am I doing something unusual myself?

Check your preferences, Locations, VST.

It gives the locations to check on vst-plugs and you can set SO to check plug-ins on start or not.

I had a similar problem which turned out to be a shortcut/symbolic link to the vst3 folder that was inside the vst3 folder.

This caused Studio One to index 10,000 plugins each time it loaded (I don’t have ten thousand plugins, it was just indexing the same ones repeatedly — up to a maximum of ten thousand times).

Deleting the shortcut sorted the problem. Not sure how it got there in the first place.

HTH.
