Hello,

I am attempting to take an optical audio signal from a media player and play the sound through my studio monitors. I am using an audiobox 1818vsl. I am aware that the ADAT in and out are usually used to expand the number of inputs of the interface, but I cannot find any information on whether the unit can record and play raw audio coming in through the adat in. I have found tutorials for other interfaces (focusrite) where the control software allowed converting the ADAT input to a stereo SPDIF and then routing it to an output. Is this possible with the 1818vsl?

No, you can't use the adat connections for this . The optical signal from your media player needs to be connected to the rca/coaxial type spdif connector on the 1818vsl. What you need is an optical to coaxial spdif converter. You can get them on amazon for £11.
