Question

I can't get audio from Windows media player send to Capture 2. I can play WMA through the 16.0.2 on channels 1&2 but I don't get any input into the Capture software to use as part of my mix  Also, even though I get input volume, Capture 2 doesn't record anything when I press record. The software looks like it's recording but nothing is recorded.

Open Universal Control.  Click the Setup button at the top.  Choose "Main Mix" for Flexible Input Router.

This will allow you to record the Main Mix of the mixer in to your DAW on channels 15/16.
