Question

As you say all you can do at the moment is run your backing track into two channels on the desk, not the tape in, and then you can record the track as well.

Just need a 'Y' 3.5mm Stereo to two Mono 6.5mm Jacks to run from your iPad to two Mixer Channels and stereo link them.
