Hi,

I have a question about the software "Universal Control"

I used on my old PC (Win 7) the software "AudioBox VSL v1.3" and everything was fine. I could hear myself in the phone outputs and compress and equalize my mic before everything was recorded.

Now I'm using a new PC with Win 10 (1909) and I still can install the "AudioBox VSL v1.3" software, but it is not really working. So i have to use the new software Universal Control. But there i have nothing. Neither equalization nor monitoring on the phone outputs. Am i missing a specific button or is the new software just ****?

Hope for a good answer or recommendations for that.

Lukas

AudioBox VSL 1.3 was discontinued in 2015 - see this notice in our knowledge base.

Changes in how Microsoft enforces Driver Signing prohibits older software from being installed that doesn't have a newer SHA-256 signing authority. AudioBox VSL 1.3 with SHA-1 signing certificate worked on Windows 10 (build 1903) but now does not install on Windows 10 (1909) which just came out as a required update in April of 2020. (see Win 10 version history

You can still install this from the command line using the /NCRC command which will bypass the driver signing. There are some drawbacks to doing this, you won't be able to take advantage of newer updates and if you have other PreSonus hardware it can't be co-installed with newer versions of Universal Control. If you want to run just AudioBox VSL 1.3 software on your system than this may work for you.

  1. Turn off your 1818VSL. Uninstall Universal Control, instead of using Programs and Features in Control Panel, use the uninstaller supplied with the installer instead, open the file browser window, navigate to your C:\Program Files\Presonus\Universal Control folder, and run in the Uninstall.exe
  2. Now download AudioBox VSL 1.3 from the website. Navigate to the folder where you downloaded it.
  3. Hold the SHIFT key on your keyboard and right-click on the open area in the window where the AudioBox VSL 1.3 file is located.
  4. Click on "Open PowerShell Window here"
  5. Up will come a blue DOS looking window with the file path and a blinking cursor.
  6. Start to type: Presonus (and hit Tab) and it should auto complete the file path for you.
  7. Then insert a space at the end and type /NCRC so it looks like:
  8. ./PreSonus_Audiobox_Installer_v1_3_5653.exe /NCRC (and hit enter)
  9. If you're not logged into the local account and are instead using a Microsoft login or are not the administrator for the computer, you may need to enter your system password (if prompted).
  10. Then the AudioBox VSL installer will come up.
  11. Turn on the 1818VSL
  12. Finish running the installer, reboot your system when done.
  13. When the 1818VSL comes up, you may need to run a firmware update as it will downgrade the firmware to an older version.
  14. You may need to run the updater a two times to get the updater to complete.
  15. Then the system will be usable.

Another way to do this using the CMD command.

  3. In the search bar at the bottom left of your main window, type: CMD
  4. without hitting enter, you will see to the right where it says "Run As Administrator"
  5. This will drop you into a command line window that starts with C:\WINDOWS\system32>
  6. Type: CD\Users (this will take you to the user directory
  7. Type: dir <hit enter to see list of user accounts>
  8. Type: CD\<user account name>\Downloads (to be taken to your download directory
  9. Type: dir <hit enter to make sure the AudioBox 1.3 software is listed>
  10. Start to Type: PreSonus_Audio <hit Tab> to it autocompletes the file path to read:
  11. C:\Users\<user account name>\Downloads\PreSonus_Audiobox_Installer_v1_3_5653.exe
  12. Insert a space at the end of the file path and type /NCRC so it looks like:
  13. C:\Users\<user account name>\Downloads\PreSonus_Audiobox_Installer_v1_3_5653.exe /NCRC <hit enter>
  14. If you're not logged into the local account and are instead using a Microsoft login or are not the administrator for the computer, you may need to enter your system password (if prompted).
  15. Then the AudioBox VSL installer will come up.
  16. Turn on the 1818VSL
  17. Finish running the installer, reboot your system when done.
  18. When the 1818VSL comes up, you may need to run a firmware update as it will downgrade the firmware to an older version.
  19. You may need to run the updater a two times to get the updater to complete.
  20. Then the system will be usable.

Keep in mind any changes (update to your OS) or installing a newer version of Universal Control will remove the AB VSL software completely. There are no plans to update the VSL software as development for it ceased a long time ago.
