Quirks with NanoKontrol2 - Can't assign faders manually?

I picked up a Korg NanoKontrol2 to do some basic fader controlling with Studio One, and it does work but it has some odd quirks that I'd like to iron out if possible. The big one is that I don't seem to be able to assign my faders manually. Studio One automatically assigns my faders to my tracks, which is useable, but it's not ideal. Faders get assigned to tracks in the order they appear in the S1 mixer, with hidden tracks skipped, and the master out not ever getting a fader. This is frustrating. It's not a deal breaker, but it's annoying to say the least.

Even stranger is that I can assign things to the other controls - If I go an right click my master fader then it will give me the option to assign it to, say, a a pan knob, or even a button, whichever I last poked at. But not faders no matter what I do. The pan knobs do work, and so do the various buttons, so that's fine. It's just getting the faders assigned. When I move a fader the S1 fader will move, but I don't get an input notification in my undo list.

It's just weird, you know? I don't want to do anything spectacularly complicated, I just want to a couple of volume faders to use while I'm recording vocals, so I can balance the backing track with my monitoring volume, and master volume. Ideally I want to just keep those on 1, 2 and 3, and when I used several tracks to record to just be able to reassign fader 2 to whatever track I'm using at the moment. I'm not doing mixing, or permanent volume adjustment, just live balancing so I can record nice takes.

I know I can (somewhat) work around these problems. Buses do get assigned faders, so I can make a bus for all my vocal tracks and a master bus, and then moving them around, but it's just a huge pain, remembering to assign new tracks to the buses properly and arranging them properly, and it's all just a pain.

Any ideas about how to make it work would be greatly appreciated!
