Question

Plug-in parameter automation is specific to the plug-in instance it was created for. If you send the track to a different VSTi, or even a different instance of the same VSTi, a new automation lane will need to be created and the previous automation will need to be manually copied to the new automation lane.

It would be much better if you could just reassign the existing automation lane to a new parameter.

Automation data should be contained within a part container, the way MIDI data is. This would protect it from accidental alteration, and make it easy to copy, paste, and move.
